The names of the winners of the Bangla Academy Literary Award 2023 were announced on Wednesday evening.
Sixteen writers, poets, researchers and translators won the award in eleven categories, said a press release issued by the academy.
The winners include Shamim Azad in poetry category, Nuruddin Jahangir and Salma Bani in fiction, Zulfiker Matin in essay and research, Saleha Chowdhury in translation, Mrittika Chakma and Masud Pathik in drama, Tapankar Chakrabarty in juvenile literature, Afroza Parvin and Asaduzzaman Asad in research on the War of Independence, Saifullah Mahmud Dulal and Md Mojibur Rahman in research on the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Enam Ul Haque in science, Ishak Khan in autobiography and Tapan Bagchi and Sumankumar Das in folklore.
The awards will be handed over to the winners at the inaugural ceremony of the forthcoming Amar Ekushey Book Fair.
Introduced in 1960, the Bangla Academy Literary Award is annually awarded to individuals for their contribution to Bangla literature in different categories.
