Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan and former ODI captain Tamim Iqbal on Monday sat with a special committee formed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

The board formed the special committee after the national team’s disappointing performance in the previous ICC World Cup 2023 in India that is considered as their worst World Cup campaign since 2003 as they won only two out of nine league matches and finished eighth in the 10-team meet.

Previously, Bangladesh won three matches in each of the four World Cups in 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019.

The board had formed the three-member panel, constituted by BCB directors Enayet Hossain Siraj (convenor), Mahbubul Anam (member) and Akram Khan (member) on 29 November.

Siraj, the convenor of the committee, indicated that the media department of BCB would host a press conference to unveil the results.

“These matters are not something that can be divulged to the media at this moment,” Enayet Hossain stated during a media interaction in Sylhet, where Shakib and Tamim are busy for their teams in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024.

“Because this has been handled very confidentially. When the time is right, the information will be shared collectively, and the public will also be informed. We have held separate discussions with both Shakib and Tamim,” he further added.

Meanwhile, both Shakib and Tamim are currently in Sylhet to play for their respective franchises Rangpur Riders and Fortune Barishal in the ongoing BPL, the country’s lone franchise-based T20 tournament.
