Interference not expected from other countries: HT Imam

Awami League’s Election Steering Committee co-chairman HT Imam has suggested the Election Commision (EC) officials of proper monitoring so that anyone of other country does not interfere in the elections to two city corporations in Dhaka.

Iman, also the political affairs adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, made the remark after attending a meeting between AL delegation and Election Commission (EC) at the latter’s office in the capital on Thursday noon.

HT Imam said, “The overall situation of the city elections is fine as we wholeheartedly cooperated with the EC. We have talked about election observers and requested them to take initiative as they (observers) do not get scope to interfere in the elections.”

The foreign observers will obey the rules and regulations of the elections, he hoped.

HT Imam, co-chairman of the Awami League’s Election Steering Committee led the Al delegation in the meeting attended by the party’s presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak,joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, publicity secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap and executive committee member ABM Reazul Kabir.

The other officials of EC who were present in the meeting are election commissioners Mahbub Talkder, Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Brigadier General (Retd) Shahdat Hossain Chowdhury.
