BNP rally in capital this afternoon

Bangladesh Nationalist Party is set to hold a big rally in the capital on Saturday to mark the second anniversary of the jailing of its chairperson Khaleda Zia, demanding her release.

Earlier on Tuesday at a press conference, party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced a two-day programme to mark the day.

As part of their programme, the BNP arranged doa mahfils at different mosques after Jum’a prayers on Friday, seeking early recovery of ailing Khaleda Zia, party sources said.

Besides, BNP will hold a rally in front of its Nayapaltan central office at 2:00pm today (Saturday), the day of Khaleda Zia’s imprisonment.

The party leaders claimed that they have got permission from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to hold a rally in front of the party’s central office in the capital’s Nayapaltan area on Saturday.

BNP insiders said the party is making effort to hold a big rally on Saturday with huge gathering in a bid to show their strength.

Taking to daily sun, BNP vice chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said the party senior leaders will give directive to its leaders and activists about their next course of action and may announce movement programmes to ensure release of Khaleda Zia from jail.  The party’s all district units also scheduled to stage demonstration programme the same day in the same issue. BNP has also published posters and distributed leaflets to mark the day.

Meanwhile, BNP leader Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku on Friday said “Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader takes a swipe at BNP before washing his face every morning as he always remains in panic about their party. So, there’s nothing to take cognisance of his words.”

The BNP standing committee member came up with the statement while distributing leaflets among people in Mohammadpur Town Hall area demanding the release of BNP chief Khaleda Zia from jail.

Claiming that it was proved through the recent election that people have no confidence in the government, he said they are working so that tomorrow’s rally turns into a human sea.
