Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon has resigned from the post of war crimes prosecutor citing personal ground.

He submitted his resign letter to Chief Prosecutor in the Bangladesh War Crimes Tribunal on Thursday.

Sumon confirmed the news to media.

“Due to engagement in social or voluntary activities, I could not give enough time to a significant institution of the state like International Crimes Tribunal,” Barrister Sumon said in the letter.

“And I think it’s not right for me to receive a salary from the government. Hence, I resign,” Barrister Sumon added.

Barrister Sumon joined the crimes tribunal on November 13, 2012.
