A Pirojpur court on Tuesday ordered police to send former lawmaker of Pirojpur-1 constitution and his wife to jail in a corruption case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The accused are ex-lawmaker AKM Awal and also the president of Pirojpur district Awami League unit and his Laila Irad.
Pirojpur District and Sessions Judge Court judge Abdul Mannan passed the order at around 12:00 pm on Tuesday.
ACC lawyer Mansur Uddin Hawladar said Awal is an accused of grabbing government land. ACC Deputy Director Md. Ali Akbar filed three cases on December 30.
Awal reportedly grabbed the government land in front of Nazirpur police station and behind the Sadar upazila Land office.
Awal’s wife Laila Irad was also charged in one of the cases.
However, they secured eight-week anticipatory bail in the cases from the High Court on January 7.
