A Dhaka court on Monday rejected the bail plea of JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury — also a suspended government employee –and sent her to jail in connection with a case filed over the issuing fake Covid-19 reports.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atikul Islam passed the order when Sabrina’s lawyer submitted a petition seeking her bail.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Atiqul Islam passed the order after Md Liakot Ali, an inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police and also the investigation officer of the case, produced her before the court on completion of her five-day remand in two phases.
Sabrina was shown arrested in the case filed with Tejgaon Police Station on July 12 after police found her statement about the charges ‘unsatisfactory’ during interrogation.
Following her arrest, the health ministry suspended her from the post of registrar at the NICVD for violating rules.
The case was filed on June 23 against six people, including JKG Health Care’s Chief Executive Officer Ariful Chowdhury, also husband of Dr Sabrina, for providing fake Covid-19 test reports.
On June 24, police had arrested her husband and JKG Chief Executive Officer Ariful Chowdhury and four others for their alleged involvement in issuing fake Covid test reports.
Sabrina, however, claimed that she no longer had any ties to JKG. Besides, she sent a divorce letter to her husband Dr Ariful Chowdhury.
