A Dhaka court is set to start the hearing on charge framing in a case filed over the death of mountaineer Reshma Nahar Ratna in a road accident.
Reshma was killed after a microbus hit her bicycle on Lake Road near the Jatiya Sangsad in the capital On August 7. The mountaineer was also a teacher at Ayub Ali Government Primary School located near Dhaka’s New Market.
Police arrested driver of the microbus Darus Salam, a Deputy Director of IT Department of Bangladesh Bank, on August 26 from the capital’s Shahjahanpur area and seized the car.
However, police arrested another driver named Md Nayeem suspecting his involvement in the accident.
Later on August 30, Darus Salam gave his confessional statement in court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari.
In his confessional statement, he said that his driver was on leave on that day which is why he was driving his car during the incident. When his car entered in the road beside Crescent Lake, another car which was running in front his vehicle, suddenly slowed down its speed and changed the lane. At that moment, Reshma’s cycle came in front of his car which leads the accident. Late, he fled the spot sensing emerging danger.
However, he was later released on bail.
On September 30, police submitted charge sheet with the court against Darus Salam.
The police also appealed to the court to exempt Nayeem from the case as they did not found his involvement in the accident.
