The government will enforce a complete lockdown in the country for eight days from tomorrow to stem the surge in coronavirus cases.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Monday detailing what can be done and what cannot be.

The people have been barred from going outside without any emergency while operations of public transport have been suspended in an effort to prevent the further spread of the virus.

What can be done

Vehicles being used by law enforcement agencies, emergency relief workers, health services, utility services, fire service, airports, land and maritime ports, telephone and internet providers will be allowed to run.

Anyone can go to vaccination centres showing vaccination card on demand.

Production at factories and construction work will continue with the own transportation facilities of the organisations.

To keep the daily life of people normal, kitchen markets and superstores can remain open from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Restaurants and food shops can supply only takeaway foods in two shifts every day – from 12:00pm to 7:00pm and 12:00am to 6:00am.

E-commerce sites will be allowed to operate. The staff must follow the health protocols in running online trading and no customer should appear at the shop physically.

Farmers are allowed to harvest crops.

What can’t done

The operations of public transport — buses, trains and launches — as well as planes will remain suspended during the period. Shops, markets and shopping malls will also remain closed.

No services will be provided at financial institutions, including banks, during the period.

No customer can dine at restaurants in person.
