A high-level commander of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army was killed in an alleged gunfight with members of the Armed Police Battalion at a Rohingya camp of Ukhiya upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Hussain Ahmad, 40, a high-level commander of Myanmar-based terrorist group ARSA.
14-APBn commander additional deputy inspector general Syed Harun-Or-Rashid said that ARSA members opened fire an APBn patrol team at camp number 17 on early Monday.
APBn members fired back that triggered the gunfight and after a while ARSA members fled the scene, leaving one dead on the spot.
The APBn recovered firearms, ammunitions, mobile phone and SIM card from the spot, the APBn official said.
The body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital Morgue for post-mortem examinations, he said, adding that they were trying arrest the other attackers.
