A 55-year-old man was hacked to death allegedly by his cousin over a trivial matter in village Handola under Lohagara upazila in Narail on Tuesday.
The deceased is Babul Sheikh, son of Afzal Sheikh of the village.
Locals and police said Babul Sheikh’s cousin Ripon and his associates went to cut palm trees on Babul’s land around 10:30am on Tuesday.
Being informed, Babul went to the land to stop them. Later, they locked into an altercation over the cutting of the trees. At one point, Ripon hacked Babul with a sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rescued him with serious injuries and took him to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, where doctors of the emergency department declared him dead.
Lohagara police station officer-in-charge Nasir Uddin said that the body was sent to Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for post mortem examination.
