A former executive committee member of a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, Rafiq Bhuiyan, who was injured in police teargas lobbing during violence on a street in Dhaka Saturday afternoon died at BIRDEM Hospital in the city at night, said Dhaka Union of Journalists faction president Shohidul Islam said on Sunday.
Rafiq, 71, was also a permanent member of the National Press Club.
Rafiq Bhuiyan was critically injured as he fell from a rickshaw that he was riding as it upturned when a tear shell, lobbed by the police during clash with opposition activists Saturday afternoon, hit it in Segunbagicha area in the city, said Shohidul.
He said that Rafiq was on way to the National Press Club by the rickshaw from his Madartek home in the city when he was fatally injured.
Shahidul said that the former BFUJ faction leader was rushed to BIRDEM hospital where he died at night.
