At least three people were killed and two others injured in a road accident on Khulna-Mongla highway at Chairman Mor Point in Bagerhat Saturday morning.
The accident occurred at about 7:45am when a Mongla-bound truck hit an engine-van from the back. All the victims were on the engine van when the accident took place, said Inspector Md Babul Hossain of the Special Branch of Bagerhat district police.
The deceased are Sayed Morol, son of Rezzak Morol, Azad Morol, son of Ekhlas Morol, and Mohammad Moni Mallick, son of Makbul Mallick of Gabbunia Kumlai area under Rampal upazila in Bagerhat district.
Police detained the truck driver, Safayet Hossain, son of Shamsul Gazi of Chanda Afra village under Chougachha upazila in Jashore, and seized the truck.
Rampal Police Station officer-in-charge Soumen Das said that the accident left Sayed dead on the spot and four others injured.
The locals immediately rushed to the spot, rescued the van driver and passengers and took them to Rampal Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared two of them dead.
The injured ones are now undergoing treatment at the health complex, the police said.
