Mayor-elect of Dhaka North City Corporation Md Atiqul Islam has started removing posters put up for electioneering in the just-concluded Dhaka city polls.

Atiqul Islam, along with his supporters, was taking down the campaign posters himself in the city’s Banani area on Monday afternoon.

The newly elected DNCC mayor told reporters, “The city corporation authorities must be disposing tonnes of campaign posters. But, if we (newly-elected mayors and councillors) remove the posters, the task of cleaning will be finished soon.”

Atiqul Islam also called upon the newly-elected councillors of DNCC and DSCC to extend their helping hands to remove the campaign posters from their respective areas.

“There will be no benefit from hanging billboards tarnishing the beauty of Dhaka city. Rather, we have to win the hearts of the city dwellers,” the mayor added.
